BPCL’s Kochi refinery introduces food grade quality Hexane

Kochi refinery currently has the capacity to produce 5,000 tonnes per year With an aim to promote agro-processing, BPCL Kochi refinery has launched the specialty product food grade quality Hexane (FGQ Hexane). BPCL claims that it could turn out to be a boon for the agricultural sector.
This is the first time that Kochi refinery is producing a food grade quality product. FGQ Hexane is a light distillate produced from special cut Naphtha. It is mainly used as solvent in the solvent extraction units for spices and vegetable oil, drug and pharmaceutical industry. Much of the FGQ Hexane used in the country is imported and therefore would give a push to the Make in India initiative.
Kochi refinery currently has the capacity to produce 5,000 tonnes per year. In the product portfolio at Kochi refinery, FGQ Hexane is 21st in line.
