Special Boiling Point Spirit 55/115

Special Boiling Point Spirit 55/115 - The primary use of SBP Spirit 55/115 is in the rubber industry particularly during the process of vulcanization in tyre manufacturing. It also finds usage in a variety of other applications like - 

  • Preparation of certain rubber mixes, cements and adhesives,
  • Thinner for varnish, paint and printing inks formulation where quick drying is required
  • Diluent for lacquer, enamels, high grade leather drops
  • Solvent for processing polishes, cleaning and water proofing compounds
  • Solvent for dry cleaning where quick drying time and reduced residual odour are desired
  • Fuel in gas generation plants

Mineral Turpentine Oil

Mineral Turpentine Oil (LAWS – Low Aromatic White Spirit) -  MTO (LAWS) finds extensive usage in the manufacture of surface coatings like paints, varnishes and lacquers. It is also used as a solvent for - textile printing with pigment colours; metal and machine degreasing; wax, rubber and resins in the manufacture of electrical insulating compounds and in preparation of bituminous paints.

FOOD GRADE HEXANE

Hexane is a colourless solvent. Food grade Hexane is primarily used in the extraction of Edible Oils. This calls for very high purity levels of Hexane, followed by safe and careful storage, handling and transportation right from production to end use. It also finds usage in a limited manner in preparation of rubber adhesives, can sealing compounds etc.

Benzene

Benzene is primarily used as a chemical raw material in the synthesis of plastics, rubber, phenols, nylon, resins, detergents and other products used in the production of drugs, dyes, insecticides and plastics.

Petrochemicals

BPCL has taken up integrated refinery expansion project (IREP) to enhance the capacity of its Kochi Refinery from 9.5 MMTPA currently to 15.5 MMTPA. The Refinery at Kochi, post expansion, will produce 0.5 Million Tonnes of Propylene which it plans to utilize by producing high value niche petrochemicals like Acrylic Acid and its derivatives like Acrylates, Oxo-alcohols & Super Absorbant Polymer (SAP).

BPCL will engage in marketing of the following grades of Petrochemicals:

  • 2 Ethylhexyl acrylate (2EHA)
