Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal became the first Indian woman to win two individual Commonwealth Games Gold Medals in Badminton after defeating counterpart P.V. Sindhu 21-18, 23-21 in a high intensity final of the Women’s Singles event. Saina had also won the title in 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Coming back from injury, the former World no. 1 showed tremendous determination to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
Saina and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde were part of the historic Indian Badminton Team which won the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games for the first time. India defeated favorites Malaysia 3-1 in the final. Saina sealed the victory for India by defeating Soniia Chea 21-11, 19-21 and 21-9 in an exciting women’s singles match.
BPCL’s Table Tennis sensation Sanil Shetty won two medals at the Commonwealth Games. He was part of the Gold Medal winning Indian Men’s table tennis team and won Bronze Medal in the Men’s Doubles event partnering with Harmeet Desai. They defeated Singapore’s Pang Yewn En Koen & Poh Shao Feng Ethan 11-5, 11-6 & 12-10 in straight sets.
