BPCL Kochi Refinery wins the "Award for Large Scale Industries" by the National Safety Council (Kerala Chapter) at the 53rd National Safety Day celebrations on 04 March 2024. Mr.  Shri K Chandran Pillai, Chairman, Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) presented the coveted recognition to the Kochi Refinery team represented by Mr. C Rajeev, Chief General Manager (Operations), Mr. S Sriram, Chief General Manager (Engineering & Advisory Services), and Mr. Mathew P Thomas, General Manager I/c (HSE) along with senior officials and the KR HSE team at the National Safety Day celebrations of the NSC (Kerala Chapter) in Kochi.

Mr. Shijil Subash PS, Manager (HR), Mr. Sachin V Mathew, Manager (Maint) and Mr. Balagirish J, Manager (Finance) represented Team Kochi Refinery that bagged the coveted rolling trophy for the year. The team submitted a case study on the HR interventions for the recent turnaround of the gigantic units of the IREP of Kochi Refinery, where we focused on the 3-E approach of Engage, Empathize and Elevate. The 2024 version of NIPM Young Managers Contest (YMC 2024) in Association with V Guard Industries Ltd., Rajagiri Business School and Rajagiri Collage of Social Sciences(Autonomous) highlights the impact that HR teams in Kerala have generated to power HR / People Practices. Kerala Chapter highlighted the BEST HR PRACTICES followed and adopted by the Organizations and celebrated Business Success stories in the form of case studies. The NIPM Kerala Chapter organised the contest in Kochi on 23rd February 2024.

BPCL Mumbai Refinery received the prestigious ‘IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Performance Excellence Award 2022’ in the Manufacturing category. The award was distributed in a glittering ceremony held on 28th April 2023 at Walchand Hirachand Hall, IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Churchgate, Mumbai.
Shri Abhinav Bindra, Olympic & World Champion (Air Rifle Shooting) was the chief guest of the event, and Shri Subramoni Iyer M R, ED I/c, MR, along with the team received the prestigious award from him.

On the eve of World Water Day 2023, Bharat Petroleum bagged the prestigious TERI Water Sustainability Award under the category of Wastewater treatment & Safe reuse. The award instituted by The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) was presented to Kochi Refinery for “Facilitating the collection, treatment and reuse of waste-water towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal on Clean Water & Sanitation.” Team Kochi Refinery led by Mr. Sankar M, Chief General Manager (Manufacturing), received the award from the iconic Dr. Kiran Bedi, Founder and Mentor of Navjyoti Foundation and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Mr. Mathew P Thomas, General Manager(Power & Utilities, Mr. Joseph Rajan, Chief Manager (Oil Movement & Stock) and Mr. Anand Gopinath, Senior Manager (Environment) were also present from Kochi Refinery. The ceremony was also felicitated by Mr. Bharat Lal, Director General, National Centre for Good Governance and former Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission and Dr S K Sarkar, Distinguished Fellow (TERI). This is the second edition of the “Water Sustainability Awards” by TERI and the theme this year is ‘Accelerating the Change - Need to achieve Sustainable Development Goal on Water’. The awards were distributed in New Delhi on 21 March 2023. The joy of winning the Water Sustainability Award was shared on Social Media as a special post on World Water Day, 22 March 2023.

BPCL received the coveted KMA Excellence Awards 2023 for in-house magazine (2nd runner up) for the house-journal of Kochi Refinery – JwalaDhwani. On behalf of BPCL, Ms. Kavitha Mathew, Manager (PR) & Associate Editor (JwalaDhwani) and Mr. Vineeth M Varghese, Chief Manager (PR & CSR) received the award from Mr. Srinivas Dempo, Chairman (House of Dempo, Goa) & President (All India Management Association) and Ms. Rekha Sethi, Director General (All India Management Association) on 17 March 2023. The house-journal JwalaDhwani was recognized for being a meticulous chronicler of Refinery achievements, corporate and business updates, a platform to show-case talents and for being the one thing that is proudly owned by generations of employees connected to Kochi Refinery.

BPCL partnered with the 13th International Symposium on Fuels and Lubricants 2023, which was held from March 17-19, 2023 in Delhi, with the theme “Fuels & Lubricants as enablers for Net Zero Goal”. This symposium focused on the needs and solutions for Fuels and Lubricants as enablers towards meeting Net Zero goal. Special emphasis was given to energy efficient lubricants required for meeting emission regulations, energy & fuel efficiency, durability norms and environmental issues. In addition to the above, differentiated fuels and new excitements in additives for fuels and lubricants were also discussed.
Ten papers were submitted by specialists from Corporate R&D Team, Lubricants BU and Mumbai Refinery, while Debashis Ganguli, Chief General Manager (Lubes), BPCL and Dr T. Singh, Dy. General Manager, R&D chaired the sessions. Aniruddha Kulkarni, Manager (R&D), CRDC, Greater Noida received Best Paper Presentation Award for his technical paper “Promoting Clean Cooking Fuels in India – One Step towards Net Zero”, which covered the techno-commercial study of the various fuels used in India and the benefits Bharat Hi-Star stove brings in reducing the emissions.

Water Stewardship
Refineries are among the major consumers of water that has both process and non-process origins, like cooling towers, steam system, etc. Mumbai Refinery requires 360 lit of water/ton of crude excluding sea water. Depending on the type of crude oil, composition of condensate and treatment processes, wastewater is generated from various processes is also recycled to a large extent.
Our Mumbai Refinery uses 14000 KL / day of fresh water , which is free of minerals and contaminants to avoid extensive damage to equipment’s. We make all efforts to manage and recycle various water streams to avoid using this valuable resource. Some of the highlights of water management at Mumbai Refinery are as follows –
+ Due to its proximity to Arabian Sea, 82 % (volume) of sea water is used in refinery operations to reduce freshwater consumption.
+ Along with RCF Mumbai refinery has set up Sewage treatment plan which process 22 MLD of Sewage Water and generates 15 MLD of Fresh water . Out of which BPCL consumes 6 MLD f treated water to reduce burden on BMC fresh water supply.
+ 53,000 kl (volume) water is collected every year, through rain harvesting
The above makes 90 % of Mumbai Refinery’s total water requirement, while balance is met through freshwater from BMC.
Our above efforts are equivalent to saving the freshwater for more than 50,000 people everyday. To further reduce our dependency on freshwater, we plan to double the rain harvest capacity in next one year.
Sustainability Performance Highlights
Bharat Petroleum has been among the first corporates in India that have announced their 'Net Zero' plans. Our ambition is to achieve 'Net Zero' in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by the year 2040 to curb the carbon footprint of our operations. To realise this aspiration, we have articulated our renewable energy targets to reach 1 GW by 2025 and 10 GW by 2040. We also have taken several steps to make our operations sustainable –
+ More than 12,500 Fuel Stations shall be solarised by 2025, in our effort to make them carbon neutral.
+ Setting up 20 MW Green Hydrogen Electrolyser Plant in Bina Refinery, which will split water using electricity generated from renewable sources, to aid desulfurization of crude oil.
+ By March 2023, the entire nationwide marketing net-work will be Zero Waste to Land Fill certified, which means that no waste will end up in soil.
+ Have planted more than 8.5 lakhs trees, equivalent to 20,000 MTCo2e carbon sequestration, which will be scaled up to 1 Million trees by 2025.
+ More than 2,100 MT Plastic Waste has been disposed off under Extended producer Responsibility and have launched unique concept of using the plastic waste in building roads, where 250 tons of plastic has been so far been used, saving 750 MTCO2 emissions.

We are pleased to announce that 1.5 MMTPA Kero Hydro Treater Unit (KHT) project in Mumbai Refinery has received INDSTT Trenchless Excellence Awards 2022 for Best Project Management, Best Project and HSE , as well as the 13th CIDC Vishwakarma Award 2022.

The Kerosene Hydrotreater Unit is a catalytic chemical process unit used to remove sulphur from kerosene. The objective of Kerosene Hydrotreating is to upgrade raw kerosene distillate to produce specification products suitable for marketing as kerosene, Jet Fuel – which is used in aircrafts, Mineral Turpentine Oil and High-Speed Diesel. The first of its kind in India, KHT Unit facility has a capability to produce ultra-low Sulphur products making them more environment friendly.

Propylene Derivative Petrochemicals, was introduced by BPCL for the first time in India at the Kochi Refinery Petrochemical Complex. This is a complete Make in India initiative. The Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Complex, which was dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 14th February 2021, was built at the cost of Rs 6,000 crore. The complex has an Oxo-Alcohol Unit, Acrylic Acid Unit and Acrylates Unit of world scale size and capacity and saves foreign exchange substantially due to import substitution.
The awards were shortlisted by an eminent jury chaired by Shri. Anil Razdan and had Industry experts from across various disciplines and segments of the industry. The ETEnergyworld Annual Gas Awards acknowledge the doers, the creators and the winners within the vibrant Oil & Gas industry. We hosted 23 large transporters, who uplift diesel from us for their fleet of trucks to our Mumbai Refinery for a guided tour.
These fleet owners had the opportunity to learn more about what it takes for our facilities to operate safely and reliably while also gaining a deeper understanding of how a refinery works.
Built in 1955, Mumbai Refinery is one of the most versatile refineries in India that excels in aspects such as quality, technology, human relations, safety and environmental friendliness.
With an annual installed capacity of 12 MMT, it offers a range of innovative and import substituting products, like 100N Group III Lube Oil, MAK Drillol, Lubes Catalyst, D80 Solvent; and Food & Pharma Grade Hexane, used in packaging. Center for High Technology, a dedicated technology cell of MOP&NG, has certified Mumbai Refinery as the second most efficient PSU refinery of the country.

BPCL winning streak in PSPB Games continue, as our Billiards & Snooker team lifted the Winner's Trophy at the 17th PSPB Inter Unit Championship 2021-22 yesterday.

Bharat Petroleum received the coveted ‘Leadership in HR Excellence’ award, at the 12th CII National HR Excellence Awards ceremony, held on 24th March, 2022.

The company scored in the 600+ band range, on a rigorous CII Assessment.

The CII HR Excellence Award is one of the most prominent honours in the #HRindustry, which is based on frameworks to position #HR initiatives, measure current status, and identify gaps to stimulate solutions. Through this model, CII aims to help improve HR performance practices and capabilities by providing objective feedback for improvement, while also facilitating communication and the sharing of best practices and information within and among organisations.

BPCL is conferred the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Innovative Product/Service Award 2021’ for the K Model product, a crude compatibility prediction and optimization software, developed by Corporate Research & Development Center, which enables refiners to arrive at an optimum compatible crude oil blend based on economics, availability and processing feasibility on a real-time basis.

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is a premier body of business and industry dealing in various Sustainability Development programs related to Corporate Governance, Water Stewardship, Sustainable performance etc. In an attempt to recognize and honour, endeavours taken towards creating a Sustainable Development model for the society at large, Indian Chamber of Commerce organized the eleventh edition of Corporate Governance & Sustainability Vision Award on virtual platform.

In this addition organizations which demonstrated excellent performance in the area of Corporate Governance, Sustainable Development performance and CSR activities were invited. Some of these companies who have taken positive steps to manage and measure their economic, environmental and social performance and have integrated sustainability into their core business models were felicitated. He further emphasized the importance of Triple bottom line and BPCL commitment towards Sustainable Development Goals. He also gave details of the our five focus areas under CSR activities and the initiatives taken by BPCL under each one i.e. Water, Health and Hygiene, Community Development, Education and Skill Development.

The ‘NHRDN-Prof Ram Charan Young HR Icons Awards' is a multi-stage evaluation based competition conducted every year by National HRD Network. It comprises of a mix of online tests and in-person interactions, which assesses nominated Young HR Professionals on a comprehensive set of criteria & competencies that clearly differentiate superlative HR professionals. The 6th edition of the competition was recently concluded which witnessed around 230 individual participants from around 200 companies vying for the prestigious honour.

Out of these 230 participants only 8 of them could qualify for the National Finals which included two Young Officers from BPCL- Ms. Neha Gupta, Asst. Manager (Training) and Mr. Shivang Ganatra, Manager (HRD). The Final Level of the Competition involved a one-on-one interaction with select HR/Business leaders drawn from some of India’s best organisations.

It is a matter of great pride and delight for BPCL that Mr. Shivang Ganatra, Manager (HRD), was adjudged the 3rd runner up in the competition thus proving his mettle across multiple rounds of assessment and displaying the aptitude, attitude and skills critical to a budding HR leader. The award was presented to him at the recently held NHRDN 23rd National Conference (virtual) -the largest gathering of HR leaders and practitioners in India.

We congratulate Shivang Ganatra on this stupendous achievement. We also congratulate Neha Gupta for qualifying for the National Finals after a series of evaluations.

The Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) recognizes the leaders, innovators and pioneers in the Oil and Gas Industry, with an objective to celebrate the industry’s most outstanding achievements. The applications are evaluated by the Awards Committee comprising of experts from Oil and Gas Industry.

BPCL was awarded the ‘Innovator of the year – Team’, led by Mr. Srinivasulu Kaalva, Sr. Mgr. (R&D) from CRDC for developing Divided Wall Column (DWC) technology for improving the energy efficiency of distillation columns. This technology is successfully implemented in the Kochi Refinery Naphtha Distillation unit.

The DWC concept is emerging technology in distillation, it combines the operation of two conventional columns in one shell and consumes less energy (20 – 30%) compared to conventional columns. Besides lower capital and operational costs, improved product quality, smaller foot print area are some of the key advantages due to which DWC technology is gaining popularity over conventional distillation. CRDC mastered DWC technology in view of these benefits and energy saving potential. To demonstrate the technology, CRDC along with KR modified existing conventional GSU column into DWC for naphtha splitting application (to provide high quality feed to ISOM and CCR unit). The indigenously designed DWC (GSU-DWC) for naphtha splitting application was inaugurated on 11th March, 2019.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation limited was felicitated for being country’s frontline ‘Corona Warrior’ during the pandemic, serving the society across the length and breadth of the nation by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Shri. PS Ravi, Executive Director (Retail) and Shri. S. Abbas Akhtar, Chief General Manager (Public Relations & Brand) received the citation on behalf of the company from the Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Also present on the occasion was Shri. Quaiser Khalid IPS, Commissioner of Police, Railways, Maharashtra and also the founder – president of nonprofit and literary NGO “Pasbaan – e – adab” which organized this felicitation programme.

In response to Covid -19 Bharat Petroleum Limited undertook several measures to serve the nation. Rising to the challenge, BPCL sprang into an elevated mode of action to ensure seamless continuity of operations during the pandemic. Apart from fueling land-based frontline services across the nation, BPCL’s aviation service also refueled emergency cargo flights that transported medicine, critical supplies and air ambulances.

Apart from this, BPCL also provided humanitarian aid and support to Corona Crusaders. BPCL distributed over 3 lakh masks, around 30,000 gloves and 22,000 PPE along with 1.5 lakhs sanitizer s to keep people safe from pandemic and provided support by handing over 14 ventilators, more than 200 infrared thermometers and 60 Covid ICU beds to various hospitals. BPCL Distributed more than 5 lakh meals to migrant workers, daily wage earners, poor and the needy and over 10 lakh food packets in humanitarian aid.

Hon’ble Governor Shri Koshyari also felicitated Chairman and Heads of various public sector undertakings, banks, corporates, NGOs and individuals, among others for being 'Corona Warriors'. The felicitation programme was held at Raj Bhavan, on 20th February 2021.

BPCL Corporate R&D Center received two Awards in the recently held Frost & Sullivan : Project Evaluation & Recognition Program 2020. The Jury recognized following projects from CRDC.

“Improving thermal efficiency of domestic LPG Cooking stove” project has been recognized with the “First Runner Up - Environment Leadership Category, Manufacturing Sector” - Presentation to the Jury was made by Mr. Aniruddha Kulkarni.

“Efficient vapor recovery system to meet Environmental emission norms at Retail Outlets” project has been recognized with the “Certificate of Merit - Environment Leadership Category, Manufacturing Sector” - Presentation to the Jury was made by Mr. Nitin Somkuwar.

BPLC won the “SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD” for Excellence in Learning & Development – PSU Category in the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Awards. This prestigious award is in recognition of the innovative L&D practices of the corporation. A two-stage evaluation process which included presentation before a panel of judges about the L&D initiatives and its impact on business outcomes led to BPLC getting a special recognition for its L&D efforts. This prestigious award competition attracted entries from many corporates in PSU and Private Sector. The selection was made on the basis of the uniqueness and scalability of the L&D initiatives and its impact on business outcomes.

The excellent performance of our Corporation during the recent Swachhata Pakhwada in July 2020 has won us the “Second place” among Oil & Gas PSUs and offices. The “Swachhata Pakhwada Puraskar” for 1st -15th July 2020 was presented on 14.12.2020 by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan- Hon’ble Minister Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel. Shri K. Padmakar, Chairman & Managing Director virtually accepted the award while Shri M.A. Khan- ED Coordination received the award in Delhi at the official function, in the presence of dignitaries from MOP&NG. At the same ceremony, BPCL was also awarded “Second place” for our exceptional performance in the ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ campaign from 11th September to 27 th October 2019.

We outdid last years’ Pakhwada performance, reaching out to over 62 lakh persons, through a whopping 79,000+ activities. The Pakhwada covered online activities comprising mainly of Information, Education, Communication (IEC) initiatives including creation of awareness about Swachhata Abhiyan through webinars, video conferences, holding online competitions, dissemination of information through website and social media. It is pertinent to note that despite logistical difficulties, we planted around 2 lakh trees and distributed 3.2 lakh hygiene kits comprising of masks, sanitisers etc.

The dedicated participation of the extended BPCL network including Retail Outlet Dealers, LPG Distributors and our channel partners served as multipliers of activities and supported in taking activities right up to the homes of our customers.

BPCL is the first company in the field of production of Certified Reference Material and Proficiency Test Services in India for the petroleum testing laboratories as per ISO 17034 & ISO 17043 through the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

Every year, NABL conducts the Annual Conclave for PT Providers & RM Producers in India to promote the awareness and maintenance of the Quality Standards at Laboratories as per ISO guidelines.

This year, the conclave was conducted online with a theme to enhance the capability of the Labs through the initiatives like Made in India & Atma Nirbhar Abhiyaan , where 148 participants from National & International laboratories of various field viz Petroleum, Petrochemicals, Plastics, Rubber, Polymer, Metallurgical, Pharma, Medical Diagnostic, Natural product, Govt Research Labs, Mints and Environmental laboratories participated.

The objectives and advantages of the conclave are:

• Recognition of competence of Laboratory by an Accreditation body in accordance with international criteria
• To enhance the scope of accreditation and to propagate the initiatives among SAARC, Middle East and African countries
• To enhance customer confidence and satisfaction
• To build a strong Quality Assurance System
• To establish the Indian brand of PT schemes / RM / CRMs in global market

Mr. Ramakrishna Sistla & Mr. Siddhartha Mitra from QA HQ represented BPCL in the national competition and made presentation on the uniqueness of BPCL PT & CRM, capabilities and future plans.

Out of 15 finalists BPCL team was adjudged and awarded with 3rd prize in the PT process presentation and Team Q&A is proud of this achievement.

Public Relations Council of India confers "Corporate Citizen of the Year -2020" on #BharatPetroleum. The award is for outstanding contribution to the Profession, Industry and Society. Shri N.Prabhakar, Chief General Manager (Brand & PR) received the coveted award from Hon'ble Home Minister of Karnataka, Shri S. Basavaraj Bommai in Bangalore on 7th March, 2020.

Santosh Nivendkar, GM, BPCL & State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Maharashtra, receives the 1st Prize for Best Performance Award in National Level Competitions for SLC for his performance during #Saksham2019 to promote the message of Fuel Conservation. Award was given by Dr. M M Kutty, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas during #Saksham2020 in Delhi today.

Corporate Research & Development Centre of BPCL received three Awards during the Project Evaluation and Recognition Program 2019, hosted by Frost & Sullivan, on 18th December in Mumbai.

Divided Wall Column (DWC) Technology for Improving Separation Efficiency and its Application for Maximizing Gasoline Production in Refinery was declared winner, while K Model: Desktop Solution for Crude Oil Blend Compatibility & Blend Optimization and Chemical for furnace cleaning in refineries received Runners Up and Merit of Certificate respectively.

Bharat Petroleum received Grant Thornton Social and Business Enterprise Responsible Awards (SABERA), under category ‘Responsible Business of the Year’.
 
The SABERA awards recognise companies in India that are making significant contributions in the social and environmental domain.
 
Award was received by Ashish Gupta from Chief Manager (Corporate HSSE), Manoj Kumar, DGM, Aviation and Anil Ahluwalia, GM, Brand & PR, on behalf of the company.

FIPI also honoured BPCL’s Rituraj Mishra, Senior Manager, Mechanical Maintenance (Pipelines) Kochi with Young Achiever of the Year (Male) in Oil and Gas Industry in 2019 earlier today.

Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan handed over the citation to him today in New Delhi.

Rituraj has made significant innovative contributions in the subject of Petroleum Pipeline Integrity and Corrosion Control across the country. He has designed and implemented Effective Corrosion Monitoring System Analytics Model with self-recommending tool to predict remaining life of the system.

BPCL Mumbai Refinery was recognised with GOLD award in INDIA MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2018 instituted by FROST & SULLIVAN under the Process Sector, Mega large category. The award was received by CJ Iyer Executive Director I/C (Mumbai Refinery), BPCL at the hands of Mr. Panduranga Prabhu- Regional President, Power train Solutions, Bosch Ltd., India and Mr. K R Srivastava- Chief Executive Officer, UPL Limited, at a glittering ceremony held on 6^th December 2018, at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Mumbai. The BPCL Mumbai Refinery team of Mr. D.V. Mamadapur , Mr. K Rajashekar, Mr. A.R. Shah, Mr. Chacko M Jose, Mr. D.D. Sarkar and Mr. J. Roy were present on this occasion.

lndia Manufacturing Excellence Awards - 2OI8" instituted by FROST & SULLIVAN  recognizes Manufacturers across the country for best manufacturing practices and operational excellence in different categories. This award was based on intensive three day site assessment of Mumbai refinery to check the focus on adoption of 12 pillars/parameters of framework instituted by M/s Frost & Sullivan which reflects maturity of an organization. These 12 pillars are an integral part of the emerging trend of Industrial Revolution and include Focus on Customers, Orderliness, Safety and Environment, Visual Management, Scheduling Systems, Layout & Material Handling Systems, Inventory Management, Asset Care & Internal Competence amongst various others.  
 
BPCL Mumbai Refinery’s Manufacturing Competitiveness and Business Excellence were assessed on the above mentioned stringent criteria and was  awarded the GOLD AWARD 2018 under the Process Sector, Mega Large Business category..
 
BPCL (MR) has participated  and received the IMEA Gold Award earlier in 2013 and 2015, scoring 822 and 852 points, whereas this year BPCL scored 867 points. A total of 104 Organizations, including ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Pfizer, Philips India, Schneider Electric India, SKF India amongst others participated in the IMEA 2018.

The organization has taken this factor into the limelight, to regulate the tributaries of knowledge, learning and wisdom that originate from the well-lubricated minds of its family and helped it to converge on a single platform called the BPCL Brand Quiz Baadshah - 2018. The quiz programme is a knowledge enhancement initiative and the largest Corporate Brand Engagement Program in Asia for employees and channel partners (RO dealers, LPG Distributors, Lube Distributors) and this mega event justifiably entered the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records in 2018 with 12646 participants.

The participants were from all Strategic Business Units, entities and refineries across regions and states. Out of this, 6320 participants were employees and the rest of the 6326 contestants were channel partners. 8 teams comprising 16 participants qualified for the Grand finale. BPCL Brand Quiz Baadshah - 2018 mirrored the intellect of the BPCL parivar The objective of this mammoth event was not just about testing the General Knowledge related to BPCL but also to build brand equity and awareness that will be fruitful for the entire BPCL family and bring about inclusive growth within the BPCL fraternity.

The quiz programme was held from 26th June, 2018 to 12th Oct., 2018 and was spread across 5 rounds which included 2 online rounds and 3 live rounds, covering 23 cities. Every event was complemented with games and prizes to fuel further interest among the participants. The Scintillating Grand finale was held at BPCL, Mumbai on 12thOct’18 and was webcast live.

Brand Quiz Baadshah was awarded Asia Book of records and India Book of Records for 2018 as Largest Corporate Brand Engagement Program in Asia for employees and channel partners at the event.The Grand finale was attended by Sh. Arun Singh, Director ( Marketing ) and Mr. K Padmakar, Director ( HR ) and Mr. N. Prabhakar , CGM ( Brand and PR ) among galaxy of senior officials of BPCL.

BPCL received the prestigious ‘Star PSU’ Award from Business Standard at the Annual Awards for Corporate Excellence on 31.3.2018. The award was received by BPCL Chairman & Managing Director Shri D.Rajkumar from Hon Minister of Defence Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.

This coveted award is yet another affirmation of BPCL’s stellar position in the energy space, considering the recent upgradation of BPCL to Maharatna status.

BPCL Chairman & Managing Director dedicated the Award to Team BPCL who exhibited tremendous commitment and put in tireless efforts in pursuing the stretch goals and targets.

Apart from financial metrics and competitive advantage, the criteria for selection for the Award included scale, sustainability, leadership and innovation. BPCL is effectively managing the intense competition in the current disruptive times. BPCL was chosen as the Star PSU from among 300 Indian Public Sector Undertakings.

BPCL LPG SBU has been conferred with the OISD award under the category of ‘LPG Marketing Organization’. The award is bagged by BPCL LPG SBU for the 8th consecutive year in a row. OISD adjudged BPCL LPG Marketing as the Winner amongst the LPG Marketing Organization for the Year 2015-16. Since last four years, OISD is assessing the safety performance on zone basis and for the year 2015-16, the award is given to BPCL for the LPG Western Region.

The award was presented during the Inaugural Ceremony of the Refining & Petrochemicals Technology Meet (RPTM) held at Bhubaneswar on 13th January 2018. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Honourable Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas ;Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship presented the award to Shri R.P.Natekar, ED LPG in the august presence of Shri Kapil Dev Tripathi, Secretary MOP&NG, Shri Sandeep Poundrik, Jt. Secretary (Ref) - MOP&NG, Shri V.J Rao, ED OISD and many esteemed dignitaries from the Industry.

The awards from OISD coming in succession for consecutively eight time for BPCL LPG SBU is certainly a recognition of the safety culture that permeates the organization across the levels.

BPCL’s Internal Audit team has been conferred with the “Award of Excellence” under the category of “AGILE TECHNOLOGY in the Internal Audit” This prestigious award has been given for the Internal Audit’s innovative initiative: - “Project Smart Watch – Continuous Assessment of Risk”. The award was presented at the National Conference of IIA held at Kolkata on 12th January 2018 to Mr. J Dinaker, ED Internal Audit by Mr. J Michael Peppers, the Chairman of IIA, Global in the presence of esteemed dignitaries from the leading corporates and other institutions. The jury adjudged BPCL as the winner among the leading organizations across different sectors from PSU, Private sector and MNCs.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with a footprint in 170 + countries. The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.

“Project SmartWatch-CAR is a Methodology implemented wherein the controls are checked on continuous basis and red-flags are raised for immediate corrective action”. It’s an endeavour to create a robust real-time monitoring mechanism with use of technology enabling early detection of deviations and better governance. Idea is to identify probable, potential Risk Areas and monitor the gaps to minimize risk, prevent revenue leakages and process improvement. Recent transactions for a defined period are analysed using data-analytics to provide alerts for further review and action. Each member of the audit team has worked hard in making this project a successful one, which has already started giving significant benefits. 

Bharat Petroleum received the Best Corporate Communication Campaign / Program - (Internal) for the Brand Quiz Baadshah initiative and the Best Annual Report at the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) Corporate Communication Excellence Awards 2017. Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore AVSM, Hon’ble MOS for Information and Broadcasting and MOS (I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports presented the awards to Mr. N. Prabhakar, CGM (Brand & PR) and his team at a grand function at SCOPE Convention Centre, New Delhi on 7th December, 2017.

In order to recognize the value of CC professionals in brand and image building and connecting the stakeholders of an organization, SCOPE has instituted these awards in 2016. This year, SCOPE enhanced its standards to a two tier evaluation of the entries received from PSUs across India.  

For the Preliminary Evaluation Process, the Jury Members were Dr. Anand Pradhan, Associate Professor, IIMC, New Delhi, Mr. Shishir Sinha, Business Editor, ABP News, Mr. Sameer Kapur, Sr. Vice President, AdFactors, Dr. Ajit Pathak, President, PRSI (CC Summit Facilitator) and Mr. P. K. Sinha, SCOPE (CC Summit and CC Excellence Awards Facilitator) 

For the Final Evaluation Process, the Jury Members included Mr. Bimal Julka, IAS, Information Commissioner: Former Secretary, I&B, GoI - Chairman, Jury Committee, Prof. Vishwa Mohan Bansal, Chairman, New Delhi Institute of Management, Dr. Suresh KG, DG, IIMC, Mr. Ashok Bindra, Chief Executive & Publisher, Open Media Network and Mr. Santosh Goenka, Executive Director, Business India Group.

Its annual awards night has always been a memorable occasion for Mumbai's corporate and media circles, as an ABCI Award still retains its lustre as the ‘Oscar of the Indian Communications Industry.’
 
Earlier in the day, COMFEST-17 was held with the theme, ‘Highlighting Corporate Communications for Brand Building’. Successful entrepreneurs and professionals dwelt on the diverse ways of making effective use of Corporate Communications to build a brand and strive for excellence.

Bharat Petroleum’s Brand Quiz programme BRAND QUIZ BAADSHAH (BQB) entered the India Book of Records for the largest online participation of employees in a quiz programme by a single organisation. Ms.  Komal Singh, Adjudicator India Book of Records presented a plaque and certificate to Mr. S. Ramesh, Director(Marketing), BPCL, in recognition of this achievement, at the finale of the BRAND QUIZ BADSHAH organised by BPCL on 5^th May 2017 at BPCL Trombay Club, Chembur, Mumbai.

BRAND QUIZ BADSHAH (BQB) is an initiative of BPCL engaging employees across the length and breadth of the organisation. A total no: of 5408 employees out of the total strength of 12289 participated in the online quiz programme constituting a whopping 44.0 % participation. The participants were from all the segments of employees which included 1408 workmen, 3500 management staff and 500 clerical staff.

The objectives of Brand Quiz Badshah - is to energise employees, enhance their brand and business knowledge. After Online rounds, selected teams qualified to written and live rounds.

Kerala’s first and largest circulated Business Magazine ‘Dhanam’  has selected  Shri. Prasad K Panicker, Executive Director I/c (Kochi Refinery) as the “Business Professional of the Year 2015”. Shri. Panicker received the prestigious award from Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan,  Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala  at a function in Kochi on 23 July 2016. Shri. Panicker was chosen for this award  for demonstrating “the best management model to Kerala.” He has dedicated this recognition bestowed on him to the Kochi Refinery team for their commitment and unstinting  support that has enabled successful implementation of Refinery projects as well as non-stop operations of the Refinery. Petro Plus, our in-house magazine won the Second Runner-up prize at the celebrated In-house Communication Excellence (ICE) Awards 2016.  These awards have been instituted by the Shailaja Nair Foundation and powered by the FEI Group of Companies.

“An in-house magazine is the only tool that connects the employer, employee and their families,” said Mrs. Gita Piramal at the ICE Awards. These awards were initiated ‘to honour the unsung heroes who create these magazines, which essentially reflects the organizational culture and employee participation in various activities.’ ICE Awards has been witnessing increased participation over the years, with some very challenging and innovative entries yearning for the coveted trophy. This literary support is sustaining their inspiration to keep recognizing and rewarding the fine art of communication, year after year.

An eminent jury, comprising professionals from various industries, evaluated and nominated the best entries and selected the winners. Petro Plus was adjudged as the Second Runner-up in the ‘Best Magazine Among Government and Other Organisations’ category. Kochi Refinery (KR), Bharat Petroleum's world class refinery in the State of Kerala has won the Kerala State Pollution Control Board Excellence Award for the year 2015 . It is for the ninth consecutive year that the Excellence Award is being bestowed on KR in the category of very large Industry for substantial and sustained efforts in Pollution Control and for initiatives in environmental protection

He received the Best CEO Award from Mr.Jayanta Sinha, Honble Union Minister of Finance at the glittering Business Today Awards ceremony  on 18 December 2015. Indias Best CEOs 2015 survey is based on the past three year medium term performance and Business Today features the top 18 CEOs across all industries.

Bharat Petroleum bagged top honours from the Oil Industry Safety Directorate for Best Performance in LPG Marketing and for Retail Operations for the year 2013-14.

Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Honble Minister of State (Independent Charge), PNG, presented the “Oil Industry Safety Awards” in the presence of Mr. K D Tripathi, Secretary PNG, Mr. Sandeep Poundrik, Joint Secretary (Refineries), MoP&NG, and Mr. Hirak Dutta, Executive Director, OISD, presented to all the award winning entities.

The OISD Award for Best Performance in LPG Marketing (Western Region) was received by Shri K.K.Gupta, Director (Mktg), Mr. S. Ramesh, Executive Director(LPG), Mr.  P.C.Srivastava, Executive Director(HSSE), Mr.  R.V. Deshmukh, DGM  Operations & HSSE and Mr. S.K.Jain, RLM WR. This is for the sixth consecutive time that BPCL is bagging this award.

Mr. Pradhan urged the Oil & Gas Organizations to strive towards achieving the ultimate objective of Nil Incidents’ across the Industry. He went on to add that our prime objective must be to create a safe work environment in the Oil and Gas industry with an underlying commitment to creating an incident and injury-free work environment in the entire Oil & Gas Industry in India. While underlining the importance of proactive measures in preventing any incident in the Industry, Mr. Pradhan articulated that Industry must lay more emphasis on self-regulatory measures for strengthening safety in the entire Oil & Gas Industry segments. The companies must strengthen its internal audit mechanisms and promptly liquidate the weaknesses.

On the issue of fragmentation in monitoring & implementation of safety aspects of Hydrocarbon Sector, Hon’ble Minister opined the need for having an umbrella organization looking after the vital Safety aspects of Oil & Gas Industry. He further mentioned that OISD has the necessary wherewithal to effectively monitor the process safety issues in highly hazardous and flammable petroleum industry. “we must aim for establishment of world class Standard Operating procedures at our Oil & Gas Installations and must strive for making this Industry as a "Total Safety, Security and Hazard Free" Industry,” he said. The Honble Minister also released the Compendium on Analysis of Major Incidents of 2014-15 and the and Safety Audit Checklists.

Bharat Petroleum has bagged the Petrofed “Innovator of the Year – Team” award for the indigenous development and commercial application of cost effective gasoline sulphur reduction catalyst additive for Fluid Catalytic Cracking using spent FCC catalyst in refineries. Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. S Varadarajan, Director Marketing, Mr.K.K. Gupta, Director (HR), Mr. S.P.Gathoo and Head of Corporate R&D Centre, Mr. Sanjay Bhargava received the award from Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan in Delhi on 15 July 2015.
 
BPCL was also recognized as the “Environmental Sustainability – Company of the Year.”
 
Twelve awards were given away in 11 categories for performance during the financial year 2013-14 at the annual PetroFed Oil & Gas Industry Awards for 2014. Mr. K. D. Tripathi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas was the Guest of Honour at the Ceremony.
